For the safety of those involved in a sea transport and the safety of the cargo, the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) will make it compulsory from 01.07.2016 for shippers to verify and document the gross mass of a container before loading onto the seagoing vessel. It is intended that without this verified gross mass, loading onto the seagoing vessel will no longer be possible.
